Birmingham Airport has broken its silence over a “confusing” airport security rule for anybody visiting “from June.” Birmingham Airport has unveiled a big security check changes as it admits they “can be confusing” for passengers.
The transport hub, situated a stone’s throw from the NEC, is currently undergoing a £60 million revamp in its security hall. Once operational, passengers will no longer be limited to 100ml liquid containers and won’t need to unpack their liquids or electronics when passing through security.
Until June 1, passengers should continue to follow the 100ml liquids limit and place these in resealable plastic bags in a security tray, though. An airport spokesperson said: “We wish to remind our customers that existing security restrictions remain in place.

“This can be confusing to our customers. Queuing and walking routes are constantly changing however our colleagues are around for any help and assistance in the terminal. We apologise to our customers for the impact this transition may have from time to time.”
Luke Petherbridge, the Director of public affairs at ABTA, which is the leading association of travel agents and tour operators, said: “What travellers need now, as we head towards the peak months for overseas travel, is clarity about what to do when going through airport security.
“When fully implemented, the new airport scanners will make things faster and strengthen security. However, the recent extensions from the Government show that there is still some way to go before the new security rules are consistently in place across UK airports.
“With that in mind, our best advice is to prepare for your travels with the existing rules in mind. That way, you’ll be ready to comply whatever the scenario, avoiding any unnecessary delays through security and any difficulties when returning from your destination. You can also check with your airport in advance and we’d also recommend checking with your return airport too.
