Bigger and betterWith the expansion of the Terminal 1 at the IGI Airport in Delhi, things are set to be bigger and better. The expanded terminal features 20 Automated Tray Retrieval Systems (ATRS), a service that was not previously offered, and ten baggage reclaim carousels (there were previously eight). According to DIAL, Delhi Airport will become one of only a few airports in the world with the capacity to handle 100 million passengers annually (MPPA) with this expansion. At the moment, Terminal 2 serves roughly 15–17 MPPA, while Terminal 3 serves about 45 MPPA. T-1 now occupies 206,950 square metres, an increase of 55,740 square metres.

AerobridgesWith 22 aerobridges, boarding and disembarking will be quicker and more effective at the revamped Terminal 1. Without using the bus services on the runway, passengers can go straight from the terminal to the aircraft.

Baggage reclaimThere are now 10 baggage reclaim carousels at the newly constructed Terminal 1 (T-1), which houses both the arrival and departure terminals under one roof. The previous eight carousels were 52 metres long each. The goal of the wider gap between two baggage belts is to shorten passenger wait times.

DigiYatra servicesDigiYatra services were previously limited to Delhi’s Terminal 3. However, now DigiYatra will be accessible at all entry gates at the expanded T1. With the help of this service, travellers can bypass security and check-in lines and arrive at their boarding gates more quickly.

More comfortPassengers with limited mobility can use special lounges and assistance phones in designated zones. When dropping off passengers at Gate 8, they can use the inner lane nearest the terminal. Along with improved dining and shopping options, the refurbished terminal offers a well-lit prayer area and a yoga space.
