Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Indonesia.

With over 18,000 passengers arriving every single day, there is a huge volume of eager tourists who want to hop into a taxi and get to their hotel as soon as possible so the vacation can begin.

There are dozens of private transfer companies out there, and on-demand taxi services available for tourists in the arrivals zone of Bali Airport.

While many tourists arrange their airport pick-up in advance, with e-hailing apps like Uber, Grab, and GoJek becoming the go-to transportation solutions around the world, many tourists feel more comfortable just booking an airport pick-up through the app.

This week, the Indonesian-based e-taxi and delivery provider GoJek is launching their GoCar Instant feature in Bali.

The GoCar Instant service is an on-the-spot taxi service that will make it easier than ever for tourists to quickly book a ride on arrival in Bali.

There will be dedicated GoCar Pick Up Points at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, and the app will manage the queue so there will be no squabbles or confusion over which passenger is going with which driver.

Speaking about the launch of the new GoCar Instant service the Head of the East Java and Bali Department at GoJek, Jeffry Johannes spoke to the media.

He explained, “As one of the world’s best tourist destinations, Bali needs to continue to be supported by comfortable mobility, especially for tourists while enjoying their holidays. Therefore, we are presenting GoCar Instant at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.”

He added, “We believe that the presence of GoCar Instant can contribute to increasing the accessibility of tourist areas, and can help move the wheels of the economy in Bali.”

Johannes continued, “We see that the presence of GoCar Instant can support the government and Angkasa Pura I in promoting the tourism sector by providing ease of mobility.”

The Co-General Manager of Bali Airport, Aprizal, shared his praise for the new partnership. He shared “We hope that Gojek’s presence can provide a fast, reliable, and easy alternative mode of transportation for tourists arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport.”

So, how can tourists make the most of the GoCar Instant service in Bali? First, download the GoJek app from the app store and make an account.

It is possible to use the GoJek app with an international number through many tourists who choose to pick up a 30-day tourist SIM card that is pre-loaded with mobile data for the duration of their trip.

The app can be used in English; simply click GoCar Instant on the home screen and make a booking as you would on any other ride-hailing app like Uber or Grab.

From the airport, the driver will be ready and waiting; if using the service in other areas of Bali passengers may have to wait a few minutes for the driver to reach the pickup point.

The service is safe, and the app has a series of safety features, as well as ground staff based at Bali Airport now, to help tourists with any issues they may experience or any further support they need on their journey.

Transportation and tourist transportation is always a hot topic in Bali. For years, there has been an open tension between local independent taxi drivers and tour guides and drivers who partner with online taxi apps.

Earlier this year, Minsters confirmed that it is entirely legal for both locals and tourists to use ride-hailing apps like GoJek and Grab and that local taxi ranks must work to develop a harmonious relationship with online taxi drivers.

The Head of the Bali Transportation Agency, Wayan Gede Samsi Gunarta, told reporters in late June this year “There is no prohibition for online motorcycle taxis to operate anywhere.”

He added, “This means if he (local taxi driver) is officially [legally registered], yes he must work together with online taxi drivers to be able to pick up passengers.”
